    The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the recent brutal assault of a woman at a village in West Garo Hills District.

    A statement issued on Wednesday said the Commission has strongly condemned the incident of brutal assault of a woman at Teksragre village.

    “The Commission is taking suo moto cognizance of the case and today afternoon the vice chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Women and member met with the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills for thorough investigation of the case and he informed the Commission that arrests has been made,” it said.

    The Commission will be meeting with the victim and will be following up for further necessary action to be done.

    The video clipping, which went viral, revealed that men of the village had mercilessly beaten the young woman with bamboo sticks and pulling her hair, despite her crying and begging them to stop.
