A day after BJP MLA from Khumtai, Mrinal Saikia accused Assam PHE minister Jayanta Mallabaruah of spoiling the party votes because of his style of talking, the minister on Thursday said he would reply only after June 4 even as he does not give any importance on Saikia’s 8PM post..

In his post on X Saikia wrote: “#8pm :- Respected HCM @himantabiswa sir, pl tell @jayanta_malla to keep his mouth shut about party affairs. He should realise by now that his style of talking has already spoiled thousands of @bjp4assam votes in this #election2024”

In his post, Mrinal Saikia shared a video of Jayanta speaking and wrote in which the minister said: “I joined the BJP in 2015 and have served the party for 24 hours since I joined it. Have other party members given the quantity of time I have contributed to the BJP since I joined it? Therefore, your contribution to the party will determine the amount of dedication and commitment you have for the party.”

“It’s Mrinal Saikia’s 8PM post. I didn’t give it importance. Everybody skips Mrinal Saikia’s 8PM posts. But I will reply only after June 4,” Baruah told reporters here on Thursday.

“Mrinal Saikia is a senior leader> His words will have to be reviewed by the party after June 4. The party will have to review where BJP votes decline only because of my statement,” Baruah said.

“I represent a constituency where there are 25 per cent Muslim voters. But Mrinal Saikia represents a constituency where there are only 6 to 7 per cent Muslim voters. But BJP will lead by a margin of 60 to 80 per cent votes in my constituency. Could Mrinala Saikia ascertain that the party will lead by 1.50 lakh votes in his constituency,” he questioned.

“I was entrusted by the party for three clusters in Guwahati, Darrang-Udalguri and Barpeta. But I could invest only two days in my constituency. In the three seats we will lead by a 3 lakh margin of votes,” he also said.

“The performance will be reviewed only after June 4. There is no old-new clash in the BJP. There is no difference of opinion also. A person who spent nine years in a party can’t be a new worker of the party. And those who work for the party with dedication should be honoured,” he further said.

Referring to Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah’s criticism, Baruah said: “Bhupen Kumar Boraa is a frustrated person. Sometimes he writes poems, sometimes shayari and sometimes speaks absurd words. I never hope good things come out from Bhupen Kumar Borah.”

Earlier, the BJP issued a show cause notice to former Nalbari MLA Ashok Sarma for speaking against leadership during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections.
