SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) on Thursday appealed to management of the St. Edmund’s College and the state government to reinstate Prof. Jeffreyson Wahlang, who has been served with a termination letter recently.

MRCTA president B Ingty in a statement issued here has also asked the authorities concerned to address the other pertinent issues brought forward by the teaching community for the overall interest of healthy academic environment in the State.

Expressing deep concern at the current unrest and turn of events in respect to termination of the teacher and its fallout, Ingty said the association also extended its total support and solidarity with the agitation launched by the teaching faculty of the College under the banner of the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA), St. Edmund’s College Unit.

Teachers are on protest action since Monday, demanding reinstatement of Prof. Jeffreyson Wahlang (on probation) who had been served with a termination letter recently, apparently without citing any valid reason.

Teachers are also demanding uniform service rules for all categories of teachers serving the College, provisions equal status for all teachers and other usual service benefits as enjoyed by employees elsewhere.

According to her, participatory democratic processes and norms need to be followed in all spheres of administration that shall remain a learning experience for the emerging batches of students also.
