The Meghalaya People’s Committee on Aadhaar on Wednesday condoled the demise of Rev Dr PBM Basaiawmoit.

In its condolence message, the MPCA said the demise of Rev PBM Basaiawmoit has come as a shock to the committee and that it is a great loss for the family and  the community.

The committee also recollected the immense contributions of Rev Basaiawmoit towards the state and the community.

“He stood his ground till he breathed his last. He had left behind a void that it would be difficult to fill,” it said.

The committee met him in December last on account of the electoral laws amendment 2021 in which the committee registered its strong protest against the linking of Aadhaar  number with voter ID.

The committee also entrusted him to write a letter to the President of India  petitioning the President not to give assent to the Electoral Reforms Bill 2021 and the petition was sent on  22 December 2021.
