Seven people from the same family, including a one-year-old baby, lost their lives after their house was damaged and buried under heavy debris in Atisia Songmong, South Garo Hills District, on Friday due to a landslide following incessant rainfall.

The seven ill-fated family members are Silji R. Marak (60 years), her daughter Merina R. Marak (39 years), son-in-law Sama N. Sangma (50 years), granddaughter Chengbe R. Marak (22 years), son Desrang R. Marak (14 years), granddaughter Silbera R. Marak (8 years), and great-grandson Dimse R. Marak (1.5 years).

Due to the severe floods and landslides that impacted the three districts of West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, and South Garo Hills, 10 houses were damaged, while 54 villages and 4,954 people were severely affected.

Relief efforts are ongoing as the region battles the aftermath of these devastating floods and landslides.
