Minister in-charge Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Abu Taher Mondal on Thursday assured that to take up with the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on the proposal for the creation of Umden C&RD block in Ri Bhoi district.

The assurance was given to a delegation of the Nongtluh Mathan Marmain Development Forum (NMMDF) led by UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem.

“Let us see how things go as we have to take up this matter with the chief minister, planning and finance departments and then only we will come to a conclusion,” Mondal told reporters.

He said that the issue has also been raised by the Nongpoh legislator in the floor of the Assembly.

Stating that the creation of block is a continuous process, Mondal said, “(New block will be created) as and when the government finds it fit. The government has created in the past also. This year, we had created Mawhati block in Ri Bhoi.”

The minister said that the delegation has proposed that new block be named as Umden C&RD block.

After meeting the minister, Syiem assured that he would continue to take up the issue with the government for immediate creation of the new block.

“I am thankful as a local legislator that this forum has taken an initiative to support this issue so that the government will take into consideration for the creation of Umden C&RD block to be carved out of the Umling block,” he said.

“As a legislator, I will try to push this issue with the chief minister and we hope that the government in due course of time will create new blocks and C&RD will be one of them. I hope the positive approach and the aspiration of the people of more then 250 villages which falls under the proposed Umden block will see the light of the day. We look forward that it will happen in the days to come,” he added.
