MLA Sanjay A Sangma donates Ambulance to support rural healthcare in South West Garo Hills

In a significant effort to improve healthcare access in remote areas, Sanjay A. Sangma, MLA of the 54 Mahendraganj (ST) Assembly Constituency and Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, has sanctioned and donated a total of 7 ambulances under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) scheme for the years 2023–24 and 2024–25.
The latest ambulance was handed over on Tuesday to St. Anne’s School in Garagre Village under Zikzak C&RD Block bringing the total number of ambulances provided to 7. These ambulances are aimed at supporting emergency medical needs in rural and hard-to-reach areas of the South West Garo Hills district.
Sangma, a native of Boldamgre, recalled the hardships faced by families during his childhood, particularly the lack of timely medical assistance for pregnant women. Inspired by these challenges, he emphasized that the donations are driven by a deep commitment to serve the people of his constituency.
Apart from healthcare, Sangma has also focused on improving rural infrastructure. Multiple waiting sheds have been constructed to provide shelter for commuters, especially during the scorching summer months. He has also made significant progress in developing road connectivity, including the construction of fully blacktopped border roads and bridges, helping to ease transportation and improve mobility in the region.
Addressing the public, Sangma said, “Of course, there are many challenges to be addressed in my constituency, but I will continue to take a wholehearted interest in developing my area. As a local boy, I understand the struggles of my people, and I will ensure that such initiatives bring real relief to them.”
