KHNAM legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum has threatened to call for a total boycott against the celebration of the 50th year of statehood next year.

“We the citizens of Meghalaya we don’t want celebraton but we want solution. Therefore, I urge the people of the state to be ready to oppose the celebration and greet the state government with a total boycott,” Nongrum said in a statement issued on Sunday.

Nongrum, who is also the president of the KHNAM, said that he also made it clear in the floor of the House that he would not be part of such celebration.

He said the preparation for the celebration is meaningless because till date the state government is yet to resolve the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.

“While people are being fooled by false assurances, Assam is continuing to illegal encroach our lands besides commiting attrocities against our people living in the border areas,” the MLA said.
