Miles Bronson Residential School hosts IPSC Literary Festival, celebrates creativity and culture

The Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS), Borjhar, hosted the Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC) Literary Festival from July 14 to 16, bringing together students from top IPSC member schools across India for a celebration of literary and cultural expression.
The three-day festival took place at the school’s Anu Chandra Auditorium and Multi-sports Complex, beginning with an inaugural ceremony on July 14. Dr. Nripen Kumar Dutta, Founder and Principal of MBRS, formally opened the event and welcomed the visiting schools.
In his address, Dr. Dutta paid tribute to Assam’s literary and cultural icons, including Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Padma Bhushan Syed Abdul Malik, Nabakanta Barua, and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. He also acknowledged the contributions of lexicographer Miles Bronson. Emphasising the value of creativity, Dr. Dutta said nurturing young minds through literature and the arts is key to developing socially conscious individuals rooted in cultural heritage.
The festival featured a diverse slate of events, including multi-format English and Hindi debates, Living Newspaper performances that combined short documentaries and role-play, quizzes, creative writing, spoken word poetry, Sanskrit and Hindi shloka recitation, and a heritage walk.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution were held on Wednesday. Senior journalist Digjyoti Lahkar presented awards to the top-performing participants and teams.
Winning schools included Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer; Daly College and The Emerald Heights, Indore; Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior; L.K. Singhania Education Centre, Gotan; Miles Bronson Residential School, Guwahati; and The Assam Valley School, Balipara.
