MHRC takes suo motu action over police insensitive handling of female victim’s body in EGH

The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to the video clip that is circulating in which it is seen the police personnel were handling the dead body of the female victim, who was brutally murdered by her alleged boyfriend in East Garo Hills district.
The dead was handled openly without any covering which is seen by the onlookers, which shows insensitivity by the police personnel, Secretary, MHRC L Ch Marak said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Marak also stated that it was alleged that the One Stop Centre (OSC) at Williamnagar did not take appropriate action when the victim approached the centre.
The Commission directed the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills district to sbmit a report on this matter.

The Commission also directed the Director of Social Welfare to submit a report along with a copy of the press clipping.
