Meghalaya’s skilling mission delivers results: 84% trainees placed

In a major boost to youth empowerment and employability in Meghalaya, the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), in collaboration with Don Bosco Tech Society (DBTech), has recorded an impressive 84.4% placement rate under its hospitality skilling initiative.
Out of 135 trainees certified in two high-demand trades, 114 candidates have already secured employment within three months of course completion—a strong indicator of the programme’s effectiveness in preparing youth for the workforce.
At the Shillong training centre, 60 youth were trained as Food & Beverage Service Associates, of whom 51 have been placed in restaurants, hotels, and resorts, marking an 85% placement rate. Meanwhile, the Mawkasiang centre trained 75 youth as Housekeeping Trainees, and 63 have been placed, resulting in an 84% placement rate. A majority of these placements are outside Meghalaya, with graduates joining renowned hospitality establishments across India, gaining national exposure and greater opportunities for professional growth.
The training followed an industry-aligned model combining classroom learning with practical apprenticeships tailored to sector requirements. F&B trainees received hands-on instruction in beverage service, customer engagement, and hygiene standards. Housekeeping trainees were equipped with skills in sanitation protocols, inventory management, and eco-friendly practices—ensuring job-readiness from day one.
Importantly, MSSDS and DBTech clarified that the remaining 15% of trainees who are yet to be placed had either declined job offers for personal reasons or opted for alternate career paths. Had all offers been accepted, the programme could have achieved a 100% placement rate.
