The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Meghalaya, in partnership with the Office of the District Sports Officer, orchestrated a 5K and 10K run on March 16, in commemoration of World Water Day 2024. The event, themed ‘Water for Peace’ as designated by the UN, aimed to raise awareness about water’s significant role in promoting global stability and prosperity.

The route traversed Polo and its environs, commencing and concluding at J.N Stadium, Polo Grounds, Shillong. This initiative kickstarted a series of activities leading up to the main event on March 22.

Syed Md. A. Razi, Commissioner and Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He ceremoniously flagged off the Marathon, accompanied by Smt B.M Lyndem, Chief Engineer of PHED, Meghalaya, and other officials.

Of note, BM Lyndem, Chief Engineer of PHED actively participated in the run, leading by example to spread awareness on the theme “water for peace” to come together and take part in activities that encapsulates the notion that equitable access to clean and safe water can play a crucial role in fostering peace and stability within and among communities.’

The PHE Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors for their unwavering support in making the event a resounding success.
