The much hyped hosting of National Games by Meghalaya in its Golden Jubilee year has perhaps come to end and downsized to holding of North East Olympic this autumn season.

This was brought to light by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) on Wednesday who urged the Meghalaya Govt to set up Olympic Bhavan in line with other North Eastern States of the Country for its preparation of the North East Olympics.

The demand was made by the MSOA’s delegation comprising John F Kharshiing, Working President, Finely L Pariat, General Secretary, and Sebastian Swett, Vice President, MSOA in a meeting with Banteidor Lyngdoh the Sports Minister of Meghalaya Govt in his official chambers.

They requesting state govt for issuing official letter of consent (LOC) for the NE Olympic Games schedule to be held in Sept/October 2022

They also called for the allotment of the present JN Stadium Cafeteria building in polo grounds as permanent office for the MSOA.

The Sports Minister informed the Govt would fully support the hosting of the NE Games and the letter of consent and approval of budget submitted regarding the 2nd edition of NE Games would be issued shortly. He also told the MSOA leaders that they can start making the necessary discussions with the NE Olympic Association relating to the preparations for the 2nd edition of th NE Games.

The MSOA impressed upon the Minister that it would require ample time at least five months to prepare for the NE Olympic games.

The Minister also agreed to look into the allotment of the permanent building for the MSOA given that they would have to shortly shift due to the reconstruction of the UTSS Indoor Stadium, in Lachumiere.
