Meghalaya women shine at Sakkath Ultimate Open 2023, winning Spirit of The Game Trophy

Meghalaya’s women players recently made their debut at the Sakkath Ultimate Open 2023 in Bangalore, clinching the Spirit of The Game Trophy.

This marked their first appearance in a tournament outside their state. Sakkath 2023, held on August 19th-20th, featured 44 teams from across India, making it the biggest edition of Bengaluru’s flagship Ultimate Frisbee event.

Seven players from Meghalaya, trained under the Chief Minister’s Youth Centre project and India Ultimate, participated after completing a two-month training program at the Playquity Academy in Auroville, Tamil Nadu.

Competing as the Playquity Academy Team named Bright Future, they exemplified sportsmanship by winning the Spirit of The Game Trophy, which emphasizes fair play and respectful communication among athletes.

Nitya Skaria of India Ultimate expressed hopes for more athletes to emerge from the Meghalaya Ultimate project and for the formation of a state team in the future.
