  • Meghalaya: Two more dies of COVID-19, 75 new cases detected

    Two more people have died of COVID-19, taking the death toll to the 130 in the state on Monday.

    66-year-old Ganga Maya Chetri of Happy Valley passed away at the NEIGRIHMS hospital on Sunday and 55-year-old Allen T Sangma from Thorika, Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills district died at the Tura civil hospital on Saturday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

    “Chetri was admitted on November 22. She however passed away due to refractory shock with COVID-19 pneumonia with interstitial lung disease with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension with hypothyroidism,” he said.

    “Sangma was also admitted to the hospital on December 8. He however died due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding with chronic gastric ulcer with COVID-19,” he said.

    Meanwhile, 75 new cases have been detected while 50 patients have recovered from the viral infection on Monday.

    Dr War said the new cases include 51 from East Khasi Hills district, 21 Ri Bhoi district and 3 West Garo Hills district.

    Those tested positive also include 7 armed force/paramilitary force personnel, 4 health workers, 2 police personnel and 11 high risk in East Khasi Hills.

    Of the 50 recovered patients, Dr War said 37 are from East Khasi Hills, 9 West Garo Hills, 2 East Jaintia Hills and 2 South West Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 12941 COVID-19 cases out of which 753 are active cases, 12,058 recovered and 130 deaths.

    Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 459 positive cases, West Jaintia Hills 120, West Garo Hills 66, Ri Bhoi 49, South West Garo Hills 16, East Garo Hills 14, West Khasi Hills 8, North Garo Hills 7, East Jaintia Hills 7, South Garo Hills 5 and South West Khasi Hills 2.

    “Till date, swab samples of 2,67,771 persons have been tested of which 2,54,830 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

    There are 71,494 entrants from outside the state.
