Meghalaya shines at Independence Cup Karate Championship with 41 medals

The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) returned triumphant from the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship in New Delhi, clinching an impressive 41 medals at the three-day event held from August 8 to 10.
The 57-member state contingent, led by Donboklang Lyngdoh, Greater EM Kharpuri and Pynhunlang Kharbuli, produced a stellar performance that saw 35 athletes finishing on the podium. The tally included 10 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals.
Six fighters emerged as double medallists: Dominica Phidahun Kharbani (silver, bronze), Esaranaki Kharjana (gold, silver), Ferrando Wanniang (gold, bronze), Mebapynhun Marngar (silver, bronze), Nathaniel Levin Suting (gold, silver) and Xenia Rose Nongsiej (two silver).
The state’s gold medal winners were Audrella Carisa Marbaniang, Aventinus George Mylliem, Eric Banteinam Ryngnga, Esaranaki Kharjana, Fadrik Wanniang, Ferrando Wanniang, Garret Ivan Lyngdoh, Lapyntngen Mary Lamin, Nathaniel Levin Suting and Samuel Kurbah.
Meghalaya secured honours in both kumite (sparring) and kata (choreographed movement) categories, reflecting the versatility and skill of its athletes.

In a statement, AMKA congratulated the medal winners for their outstanding achievement and lauded all participants for their spirited performances and commitment throughout the championship.
