Meghalaya government has sought deployment of additional 18 companies of paramilitary forces for the conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections to the 18th Lok Sabha to be held from April 19.

Informing this on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi said, “The state government has sought for 11 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 7 companies of State Armed Police Force (SAPF).”

He said 3 companies of paramilitary forces have already been deployed in the state.

Further, the SP informed that the police department has set up the flying squad teams (FSTs) and static surveillance teams (SSTs) as per instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) adding that both the teams are already on the job.

He also said that the police are taking steps to ensure law and order is maintained. He also appealed to the public to come out in large numbers and exercise their right to franchise without fear in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
