    The state on Wednesday recorded 9 COVID-19 related deaths pushing the death toll to 797.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 4 deaths were reported from Ri Bhoi district, 3 from East Khasi Hills district and 1 each from South West Khasi Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

    He said the state also detected 482 new cases. These include 157 in East Khasi Hills, 87 Ri Bhoi, 59 West Garo Hills, 42 South West Khasi Hills, 38 East Garo Hills, 31 West Jaintia Hills, 22 North Garo Hills, 19 South West Garo Hills, 13 West Khasi Hills and 3 East Jaintia Hills.

    Dr War also informed that 434 persons have also recovered from the viral infection.

    Of these, are from 199 East Khasi Hills, 92 West Garo Hills, 28 Ri Bhoi, 11 North Garo Hills, 8 East Garo Hills, 35 South West Garo Hills, 7 West Khasi Hills, 5 South Garo Hills, 44 West Jaintia Hills and 5 East Jaintia HIlls.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 46,458 COVID-19 cases out of which 4,312 are active cases, 41,349 recovered and 797 deaths.

    With 1,333 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi 581 cases and West Garo Hills with 574 cases.

    There are 573 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 279 East Garo Hills, 230 North Garo Hills, 191 South West Garo Hills, 235 South West Khasi Hills, 138 South Garo Hills, 104 West Khasi Hills and 74 East Jaintia Hills.
