    Nine more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday taking the death toll in the state to 625.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 4 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 in West Jaintia Hills district, 2 in West Garo Hills district and 1 in South West Garo Hills district.  

    The state has also recorded 552 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 6,352.

    Dr War said the new cases include 246 in East Khasi Hills, 93 West Garo Hills, 59 West Jaintia Hills, 29 Ri Bhoi, 27 North Garo Hills, 22 South West Khasi Hills, 21 South Garo Hills, 20 East Garo Hills, 15 West Khasi Hills, 11 East Jaintia Hills and 9 South West Garo Hills.

    He also informed that as many as 597 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 288 are from East Khasi Hills, 109 Ri Bhoi, 47 South West Khasi Hills, 32 East Garo Hills, 31 West Garo Hills, 31 West Jaintia Hills, 18 East Jaintia Hills, 18 South West Garo Hills, 12 West Khasi Hills, 7 South Garo Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 37,149 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,352 are active cases, 30,172 recovered and 625 deaths.

    With 2,814 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 743 cases and Ri Bhoi with 730 cases.

    There are 551 West Jaintia Hills, 433 South West Garo Hills, 278 South West Khasi Hills, 188 East Jaintia Hills, 195 West Khasi Hills, 188 North Garo Hills, 131 East Garo Hills and 101 South Garo Hills.
