    Five more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday taking the death toll in the state to 669.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 2 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 in West Khasi Hills district and 1 in Ri Bhoi district.

    The state has also recorded 438 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 5327.

    Dr War said the new cases include 206 in East Khasi Hills, 115 West Jaintia Hills, 60 Ri Bhoi, 16 East Jaintia Hills, 15 West Garo Hills, 6 East Garo Hills, 6 South Garo Hills, 5 South West Khasi Hills, 4 West Khasi Hills, 3 North Garo Hills and 2 South West Garo Hills.

    He also informed that as many as 689 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 349 are from East Khasi Hills, 77 Ri Bhoi, 75 West Garo Hills, 48 South West Garo Hills, 33 West Jaintia Hills, 27 West Khasi Hills, 24 East Jaintia Hills, 15 East Garo Hills, 15 North Garo Hills, 14 South West Khasi Hills and 12 South Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 39,156 COVID-19 cases out of which 5,327 are active cases, 33,160 recovered and 669 deaths.

    With 2,220 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 649 cases and 638 West Jaintia Hills.

    There are 591 cases in Ri Bhoi, 335 South West Garo Hills, 231 South West Khasi Hills, 183 East Jaintia Hills, 151 North Garo Hills, 139 West Khasi Hills, 102 East Garo Hills and 88 South Garo Hills.
