    Nine more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday taking the death toll in the state to 678.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 6 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 in West Khasi Hills district and 1 in West Jaintia Hills district.

    The state has also recorded 379 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 4,924.

    Dr War said the new cases include 149 in East Khasi Hills, 52 West Garo Hills, 40 West Jaintia Hills, 36 North Garo Hills, 24 South West Garo Hills, 23 South West Khasi Hills, 15 East Garo Hills, 14 West Khasi Hills, 10 East Jaintia Hills, 9 Ri Bhoi and 7 South Garo Hills.

    He also informed that as many as 773 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 371 are from East Khasi Hills, 142 Ri Bhoi, 83 West Garo Hills, 51 South West Garo Hills, 39 East Jaintia Hills, 27 West Jaintia Hills, 16 West Khasi Hills, 16 North Garo Hills, 14 East Garo Hills, 11 South West Khasi Hills and 3 South Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 39,535 COVID-19 cases out of which 4,924 are active cases, 33,933 recovered and 678 deaths.

    With 1,995 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 618 cases and 647 West Jaintia Hills.

    There are 457 cases in Ri Bhoi, 308South West Garo Hills, 243 South West Khasi Hills, 171 North Garo Hills, 156 East Jaintia Hills, 135 West Khasi Hills, 102 East Garo Hills and 92 South Garo Hills.
