    The state is witnessing a surge in the Omicron cases with over 75 persons tested positive for the virus. 

    The genome sequencing reports of these patients have confirmed the presence of Omicron, sources in the health department revealed. 

    Of 75 cases, 50 were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 15 from West Garo Hills district, 8 from Ri Bhoi district and 1 each from East Jaintia Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district. 

    The sources however said now the state has 10 active Omicron cases after 65 patients have recovered from the virus of which 43 are from East Khasi Hills, 15 from West Garo Hills, 5 Ri Bhoi, 1 East Jaintia Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.
