    The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home  (Political) Department in a notification issued on Wednesday and in exercise of  the  power conferred by sub-Section (1) of Section 3 of the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980 (No.23 of 1980) read with the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment) Act: 2003 prohibits strikes in any essential services in order to prevent any disruption and breakdown of emergency services to the public.

    The order was issued in public interest and it is necessary to do so in view of the extreme urgency to help contain the possibility of outbreak and spread of the COVID-19 into the State.

    According to the notification, the order shall come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of six months.
