The state police have warned legal action against social media users for allegedly calling a protest march against the COVID-19 lockdown and vaccination measures of the state government.

This came after a social media post of the group “Keinnoh Ynnai Long Mraw” came out on Tuesday and has exhorted the public to come out in large numbers on June 1 at Jaiaw Student’s field and march to the Meghalaya Secretariat to protest against the lockdown and vaccination drive of the government.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said the district police has identified the Admin and members of this group.

“…some of whom have been summoned to the police station on the matter and warned of legal action if corrective steps are not taken,” he said.

The SP said due to high incidence of COVID-19 cases and rise in deaths, such an irresponsible step would lead to violation of the lockdown which is meant to control the pandemic and will only be a risk to the health and lives of many.

“The public are requested to act responsibly in these times of crisis in the interest of all and not to subscribe to such mindless requests, as such acts, will only invite legal action,” he warned.
