In an unprecedented turn of event, 15 armed personnel of Meghalaya Police deployed along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Lapangap village of West Jaintia Hills District, narrowly escaped from the attack of Karbi numbering over hundreds of them on Saturday evening.

Tensions escalated between the Karbi and Pnar communities in the border areas following the incident of Karbi uprooting of tree saplings planted by Lapangap villagers.

The video of Meghalaya police personnel escaping by running as fast as they could has gone viral and the netizens criticised the Meghalaya police for running away instead of confronting the Karbi to prevent them from intruding Meghalaya territory.

Waheh Shnong Lapangap Deimonmi Lyngdoh, in response to the incident, has requested the district administration to intervene in the matter and provide additional forces for the safety of the Pnar community in the border areas.

He also said that the Assam police have established a police camp in Lumumshyrngat, within the jurisdiction of Lapangap villages.
