    The North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union (NEPMU) on Monday decided to stop loading or transportation of petrol and LPG cylinders from IOCL, BPCL and HPCL to Meghalaya from Wednesday till the harrassment of oil tankers by Meghalaya Police are put to an end.

    This was informed by NEPMU General Secretary Ramen Das in a letter sent to Meghalaya Food Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister.

    The Union informed that since Friday last week Meghalaya Police are torturing their members Oil Tanker Drivers and helpers in the name of malpractices in Ri-Bhoi District area from 18th Mile onwards.

    They forcibly caught some Tankers who were stranded outside the Dhaba for foods at 22 Mile and registering the cases.

    The Union said that the next day also the Police personnel detained some loaded Tankers without any proper reason and as a result the innocent tanker Crews were facing problems.

    Considering the situation Tanker Drivers are fearing to take load of Petroleum products and also entering in Meghalaya, the letter said .

    “In our opinion on behalf of the workers if any one is caught red handed then authority can take action as per laws. We are also co-operate with the authority without any compromise. But in the name of malpractices etc. any innocent persons should not be harassed,” Ramen asserted.

    The letter informed that the Union obtained report from reliable sources that if any tanker Driver denies the allegation then concerned Police personnel physically tortured the Driver and forcefully taken statement and photograph also.

    The letter urged the Meghalaya Government to kindly stop such kind of harassment immediately and enquire the whole episode and withdraw the all cases without any condition.

    The Union said it is to be noted here that the Dealers and Transporters are not giving the Central Govt. Minimum Wages, PF, ESI and other fringe benefits instead of several requests. They also want to implement the statutory provision of Labour Laws.
