  • Meghalaya Police constituted SIT to investigate source of drugs confiscated from three peddlers

    The Meghalaya Police has constituted a special investigation team headed by Ri Bhoi Additional Superintendent of Police to investigate the sources of drugs confiscated from three persons arrested in Ri Bhoi District.

    According to police, three persons namely Ekramul Hussain (30 yrs) of Kupalimari, PS – Bhuragaon, District – Morigaon, Assam, Monjuwara Begum (32 yrs) of Bhuragaon, District – Morigaon, Assam, and Nihar Begum (30 yrs) of Amtola, PS Sonapur, District Kamrup, Assam were detained at 15th Mile, GS Road, Byrnihat on Wednesday.

    Police informed that approximately 254.16 grams suspected Heroin along with cash amounting to Rs. 58,380/- and four mobile phones were recovered from their possession and duly seized.

    Police suspected that the arrested drug peddlers were sourcing drugs from distributors based in neighbouring States and probably accumulated a lot of wealth by peddling drugs.

    Police informed that Nongpoh PS Case No. 01(01)2025 u/s 21(c)/27A/29 NDPS Act has been registered against the three arrested peddlers and investigation is going on.

    Police said a Special Investigation Team headed by Additional Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh has been constituted to investigate the forward and backward linkages, financial transactions, and take steps for forfeiture of illegally acquired property (IAP), if any, as per procedure established by law.

    Police said the SIT shall also prepare the proposal for preventive detention under the PITNDPS Act, 1988 of the alleged accused persons.
