The Meghalaya Police expressed concern over the fact that most of the school goers / children who are commuting as a pillion on two-wheelers with their parents / siblings/ guardians etc. are not wearing helmet thereby, posing threat to their own safety.

The Meghalaya Police urged the general public who ferries school goers / children regardless of any age group / minor as a pillion on their two wheeler to mandate the wearing of helmet in order to avoid any untoward incident as well as the same is in contravention with the provision of the MV Act.

Meanwhile, with an aim to ensure Road Safety, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) shall be vigilant and stern action shall be taken against the violator(s) as per the provision of law.
