Meghalaya police arrested accused from Assam for sexaully assualting 2 school girls in Shillong

In a span of three days, the state police has arrested the accused from Assam involved in sexually assaulting two school girls in Shillong recently.
A special team was formed on May 26, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) East Khasi Hills Ivan B Diengdoh to identify and nab the culprit after a video footage had gone viral in social media wherein it was seen that a school girl had been sexually assaulted by a masked person who had lifted the apparel of the victim and taken photographs through his mobile phone.
“The special team in a matter of 3 days identified the accused Himan Gogoi (24) of Jorbat, Assam and a team left for Jorhat on May 28 and in the morning, a joint raid with Lahdoigarh Outpost of Jorhat was conducted and the accused was apprehended from his relative’s house in Bamkukurachua village under Jorhat police station,” East Khasi Hills district police chief Vivek Syiem said in a statement issued on Thursday.
He said the police team had recovered and seized the mobile phone used by the accused and other incriminating evidence.
Gogoi was also found to be involved in a Teok police station case.
“The accused will be produced in the district court Jorhat after acquiring transit remand, he will be produced in Court of Shillong,” Syiem informed.
It may be mentioned that the place of occurrence where the incident had taken place was identified which is at Umsohsun (lane going to YMCA) and the date of occurrence was on May 23.
The victim of the case was identified and examined whereby it was ascertained that the incident had occurred at around 6.35 am for which an FIR was received and a case was registered with the Lumdiengjri police station, Syiem said.
He added that another FIR was also lodged in Sadar police station whereby another school girl was sexually assaulted on May 19 between 7.15 am and 7.30 am on the steps near Dreamland, Police Bazaar for which a case was registered accordingly.
Both cases were treated as special report cases considering the sensitivity of the matter, the SP stated.
