  • Meghalaya: Over 13,000 patients recovered from COVID-19, death toll at 138

    Over 13,000 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the state after twenty-seven more were declared cured from the viral infection on Sunday. 

    Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the patients who recovered today include 22 from East Khasi Hills district, 2 Ri Bhoi district, 1 North Garo Hills district, 1 South West Garo Hills district and 1 West Garo Hills district.  

    He informed that only five fresh cases were detected and all are civilians from East Khasi Hills district. 

    The death toll in the state has also gone up to 138 after three more persons have succumbed due to the viral infection on Saturday. 

    Dr War said the deceased persons include 78-year-old Evol G Syiemlieh of Quallapatty, Jatin Sinha (52) of Lumiablot, Nongthymmai and Maureen Kharshiing (50) of Golflinks. 

    Syiemlieh and Kharshiing passed away at the Dr H Gordon Robert’s hospital on December 25 while Singha was declared brought dead by the Nazareth hospital on the same day. 

    Syiemlieh died due to Covid-19 pneumonia with ARDS with hypertension, Kharshiing due to ARDS with MI with type 2 diabetes mellitus with CKD while Singha was a known case of CAD on medication, he said.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 13,376 COVID-19 cases out of which 226 are active cases, 13,012 recovered and 138 deaths.

    Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 164 positive cases, West Jaintia Hills 4, Ri Bhoi 30, West Garo Hills 15, South West Garo Hills 3, East Garo Hills 3, South Garo Hills 1, West Khasi Hills 5 and North Garo Hills 1. 

    South West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills have zero cases.
