Meghalaya notifies essential lab services for all public health facilities

The Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, has issued a notification outlining a set of essential laboratory tests that will be made available at public health facilities across the state. This move follows a detailed assessment of healthcare needs in Meghalaya and aligns with the Free Diagnostics Service Initiative (FDSI) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The tests have been identified based on the current disease burden, service utilization patterns, and feasibility of implementation.
The essential laboratory tests to be provided at various levels of public health facilities are as follows:
- District Hospitals: 93 essential tests (as against FDSI/IPHS norm of 134)
- Community Health Centres: 52 essential tests (against the norm of 97)
- Primary Health Centres: 43 essential tests (against the norm of 63)
- Sub-Centres: 14 essential tests (matching the norm of 14)
The notification said that this will enable standardized service delivery, improved access to diagnostics, and better monitoring of healthcare outcomes across the state.
