In bid to ensure safety of the occupants of high rise buildings in the State, the Meghalaya Govt has made it compulsory for inspection and testing of electrical installations, wiring etc by the Electrical Inspector for safety for use of electricity in multi-storeyed building more than 15 metres in height (i.e., 5 storeys).

The above decision is for the general information of all suppliers, licensees, traders or owners of electrical installations, etc as per Sub-Regulation (2) of Regulation 36 of Central Electricity Authority (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2010 “Provisions for supply.

No electricity supply shall be released, commenced or recommended (after the installation has been disconnected for a period of six months or more) to such buildings without prior inspection and testing by the Electrical Inspector.

Further electricity supply shall be released or commenced only after obtaining written approval/issuance of electrical safety certificate from the Inspectorate of Electricity, Government of Meghalaya.
