  • Meghalaya Lokayukta directs preliminary inquiry into alleged supply of substandard roofing sheets

    The Meghalaya Lokayukta on Tuesday directed the Housing department to maintain status quo by ensuring no aluminium roofing sheets are allowed to be lifted or distributed to the beneficiaries pending the submission of inquiry report by September 3.

    In his order, chairperson of the Lokayukta Bhalang Dhar has directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Bipul Das to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the alleged supply of substandard and low quality roofing sheets to the various community & rural development (C&RD) blocks in the 7 districts of Khasi-Jaintia region.

    “Seen letter dated June 28, received from the office of the Director General of Police Meghalaya deputed Bipul Das, MPS Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) to the Lokayukta. Bipul Das is directed to conduct the preliminary inquiry and on the basis of material, information and documents collected, seek the comments on the allegation made in the complaint form the public servant and competent authority and after obtaining the comments of the concerned public servant(s) and competent authority submit the report by September 3, 2024,” he said.

    “Regarding the aluminium roofing sheets in the godowns, status quo as on today shall be maintained, that is, no aluminium roofing sheets shall be lifted/substituted/distributed to the beneficiaries,” Dhar further stated in his order.

    The order was issued while hearing a petition filed by the president of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC).
