SHILLONG: Meghalaya won their last Group B match of the Dr T Ao Trophy 2020 by a handsome 8-1 margin against Assam in Kohima today but failed to progress to the semifinals.

While Meghalaya did what they had to do by beating Assam, they also needed Mizoram to defeat Sikkim in the second match of the day to qualify for the semis. As it happened, Sikkim won 2-1 over Mizoram (who had already booked a place in the last-four) and finished with seven points, with Mizoram second with six. Meghalaya finished third on four points ahead of Assam, who lost all three games.

Today Samuel Lyngdoh Kynshi (18′, 57′, 70′) and Dawanchwa Challam (46′, 60′, 63′) recorded hat-tricks for Meghalaya, with individual goals by Shano Tariang (23′) and Stephanson Pale (81′). MFA
