In pursuance of the directives issued by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCORS) and to enhance the safety of students commuting to and from schools, the Directorate of Schools Education & Literacy (DSEL), Meghalaya has issued road safety norms concerning school buses and three-wheelers operated by various schools in the State.

According to the order, all school buses and three-wheelers used for transporting school children shall prominently display their carrying capacity both inside and outside the vehicle

The carrying capacity should be clearly marked and visible to both passengers and regulatory authorities. This measure will help in monitoring and managing the number of passengers to prevent overloading.

The order informed all schools shall ensure that their school buses and three-wheelers they use are not overloaded.

All schools shall conduct periodic checks to confirm that these vehicles adhere to the specified carrying capacity limits.
