Minister in-charge Sports & Youth Affairs Shakliar Warjri on Friday said in terms of infrastructure, Meghalaya is ready for hosting the National Games in 2027.

Speaking to reporters, Warjri said, “The infrastructures required for hosting the National Games are already there in the state. Just a few that is left. We have everything in place but if you look at it in the past two years, many infrastructures have been completed.”

“Specifically for National Games, there is nothing to worry in terms of infrastructure,”he assured.

Further, the minister informed that the Centre has decided to allow other seven North East states to host one discipline each during the National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya in 2027.

“Few disciplines that we are giving to the other NE states is not based on the (claims) that we don’t have sufficient infrastructure,” he stated.

Asked, Warjri said all projects will be completed before the National Games.

“Some projects, construction is going on and some are yet to be constructed but the timeline is to complete all projects before the National Games,” he said adding “Projects, which are yet to be completed includes the Indoor Stadium in JN Stadium. All major stadiums are already done.”

He informed that the football stadium in Makhanu is yet to be constructed.

On the preparation, the minister said, “We have set up many committees, which will be looking after the venues for different disciplines. Of course, there is a probability that we might hold in SAI as well but depending on the need. So if needed, we will also utilize the SAI infrastructure.”
