    The Single Member Committee appointed by the Meghalaya High Court has recommended the need for the state government to complete the process of the audit of source of coal used by the Ferro Alloy Plants and Captive Thermal Power Plants of the cement factories and to take consequential action within a month’s time.

    “The State Govt is advised to take a final decision in respect of the said Ferro Alloy Plants within a month,” Justice BP Katakey said in his 21st interim report submitted before the Meghalaya High Court recently.

    The report said that the process of auditing the source of coal utilized by the Coke Oven Plant has been completed and demand notices have been issued to coke plants, on receipt of which such coke plants except two, namely, M/S Jaintia Coke Pvt. Ltd and M/S Abhi Coke Pvt. Ltd, have deposited the royalty and cess etc.

    The Mining and Geology Department, Govt of Meghalaya has been advised to take appropriate steps for realization of the amount under the aforesaid demand notices from the said two coke plants.

    It said that the Mining and Geology Department though has received the reply to the show cause notices from all the 7 Ferro Alloy Plants, those are still under scrutiny and examination by the concerned department.

    On the status of operation of the coke oven plants and ferro alloy plants, the Mining and Geology Department, Govt of Meghalaya has informed the Single Member Committee that Coke Oven Plants which have not been granted the Single Window Approval by the Govt of Meghalaya or Consent To Establish (CTE) and Consent To Operate (CTO) by MSPCB, are not in operation in the State.

    The Chairman and the Member Secretary of MSPCB has also informed the Single Member Committee that even the Coke Oven Plants whose CTO has not yet been renewed are not allowed to be in operation.
