Meghalaya Guv appeals for unity to uphold national integrity

Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar has called on citizens of all faiths to stand united in upholding the principles of national integrity and mutual respect. Addressing an interfaith gathering at Raj Bhavan on Saturday, the Governor urged religious leaders and communities to foster peace and social cohesion during sensitive times.
The meeting witnessed participation from key religious figures, including Naba Bhattacharya (Vice President, Meghalaya All Faiths Forum), Rev. Ellizer N Sangma (Garo Baptist Church), Rev. GPL Gadew (Presbyterian Church), Ganesh Dkhar (Seng Khasi), Sayidullah Nongrum (Meghalaya Muslim Forum), Dr. Shngain Pyrbot (Seinraij, Shillong), and Father Staibok Warjri (Catholic Community), among others.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister joined virtually from Delhi. In his address, Governor Vijayashankar condemned terrorism, expressed gratitude for the leaders’ presence, and reaffirmed that India’s strength lies in its diversity and democratic values.
All attendees observed a two-minute silence to honour the martyr of the recent Pahalgam attack.
Chief Secretary Donald Wahlang emphasized, “The nation comes first,” while Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said unity is key to national progress and urged prayers for the armed forces. Power Minister AT Mondal reiterated that terrorism has no place in the country.
The gathering unanimously condemned the Pahalgam attack and voiced support for the armed forces’ response under ‘Operation Sindoor’. Members also appealed to the media to promote messages of unity and avoid spreading unverified or provocative content.
