Meghalaya govt to fill up 1500 vacant posts to regularize adhoc appointments made after 2007

The state government has decided to conduct exams and interviews to regularize adhoc appointments made after December 31, 2007.
After chairing a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that the government will fill approximately 1500 vacancies through a selection process.
In the past, the government regularized adhoc appointments made before December 31, 2007, affecting around 3000 individuals, as per the Supreme Court’s direction.
“Now after 2007, there were still adhoc appointments that were made and hence the question arose what the government will do for those. Now, the Supreme Court has not given us the liberty to go ahead and simply regularise those individuals working in those posts. Therefore, the government has to go for a selection process…if you don’t regularize these posts, then technically speaking…these posts will always show as vacant even though there is an adhoc appointment against it because the regular process of selection has not been done. Hence, we have taken a decision that all vacancies will be filled,” Sangma told reporters.
The chief minister announced that the government will provide a one-time age relaxation for adhoc employees who have worked for 10-15 years, allowing them to appear for the exams.
“The cabinet has approved an SOP for the selection process, which includes provisions for condoning age limits for eligible candidates,” he said.
According to him, the government aims to provide a fair opportunity for adhoc employees to compete for the posts, ensuring that they are not disadvantaged due to age or other factors.
