Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inspected various tourism locations in South West Khasi Hills in presence of Power Minister James K. Sangma and MLA Renikton Lyngdoh.

The State government has conceptualised a programme to develop the tourism circuit in Mawkyrwat and its adjoining area by tapping on the potentials of heritage monolith site as well as hot springs in Jakrem area.

“The government has an ambitious tourism development plan and we are currently studying the potentials of different areas in the State to create assets and amenities to facilitate tourism in the State,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that Mawkyrwat has a rich history and natural diversity and the government has collaborated with stakeholders to chart out a systematic tourism development strategy. He also informed that consultants for tourism projects have been identified and they were working on a masterplan to promote tourism in different parts of the State.

Talking to a group of media persons, the Chief Minister informed that the damaged stretch of road from Mawphlang towards Weiloi en route to Mawkyrwak has been taken up under the Systematic Maintenance Programme which is a new programme started this year.

He further assured that the 100-bedded hospital in Mawkyrwat will be completed in the next 7-8 months to cater to the healthcare needs of the people in the district.
