Meghalaya govt seeks report into death of 13-yr-old student in an illegal Karnataka hostel

The state government has deputed a special team to Karnataka following the death of a 13 year old Meghalaya student in an alleged illegal hostel in Karnataka.
The 13 year old student from Meghalaya was a student of Class VI at a residential School of Gokul Educational Institution in T Kagepura Village, Mandya District of Karnataka.
“A Special Team consisting of Officials from the Education Department, Govt of Meghalaya was constituted and immediately sent to the place of occurrence. The team will coordinate with the concerned District Administration and would help to provide important updates to the parents of the students from Meghalaya,” Secretary incharge education said in a statement.
As per the information received till now, this School has a total of 202 Students out of which 23 students are from Meghalaya and who were residing in the hostel where the incident occurred.
All the students were taken to hospital immediately by the district administration.
“The Education Department is in constant touch with the District Magistrate of the Mandya District who has assured full support in the matter.
One of the students who is in a critical condition has been referred to a higher medical facility. All others are in stable condition,” the official said while informing that the Nodal Officers have been deputed by the district administration to ensure the needed medical assistance is provided to all concerned.
Inspector of Schools and Sub Divisional School Education Officer P Sunn and R Kharsyntiew from District MIS, PM – POSHAN have been deputed to visit Karnataka to coordinate with the concerned district administration and also with the parents of the all the children from Meghalaya, Director School of Education and Literacy Swapnil Tembe said in a statement.
“They shall also submit a detailed report on the incident subsequently,” he added.
