The state government has sanctioned Rs 549.63 lakhs as grant in-aid to six municipal boards.

“I am directed to convey the sanction of the Governor for an amount of Rs 549.63 lakhs to six municipal boards at Grant in-aid under general purpose (Salary) during 2020-21,” Deputy Secretary Urban Affairs R Nongbet said in a letter to the Director of the department on Friday.

Of this, Rs 300 lakh was released for Shillong Municipal Board,  Rs 80 lakh Tura Municipal Board, Rs 75 lakh Jowai Municipal Board, Rs 45 lakh Williamnagar Municipal Board, Rs 29 lakh Baghmara Municipal Board and Rs 20.63 lakh Resubelpara Municipal Board.

This also came after NPP legislator from Jowai Wailadmiki Shylla has recently sought the intervention of Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling into the delay to release the salary of the JMB employees for 10 months.

Meanwhile, the JMB employees have also expressed their gratitude to the state government and the local MLA for taking immediate steps to address their grievances.
