Meghalaya Govt-Petroleum Workers talk fruitful

The North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union (NEPMU) on Wednesday called off their proposed agitation of non stop transportation of petroleum products to Meghalaya from Wednesday.
Notably the NEPMU on Monday announced that they will stop loading or transportation of petroleum products from IOCL, BPCL and HPCL to Meghalaya from Wednesday till the harassment of oil tankers by Meghalaya Police are put to an end.
The Union informed that since Friday last week Meghalaya Police are torturing their members Oil Tanker Drivers and helpers in the name of malpractices in Ri-Bhoi District area from 18th Mile onwards.
In order to address the issue aired by the NEPMU, the Meghalaya Government convened a joint meeting in Circuit House, Nongpoh on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting was attended by Foods & Civil Supplies Commissioner & Secretary Pravin Bakshi, senior government officers and police officers, leaders of the NEPMU and leaders of Meghalaya Petroleum Dealers Association.
During the meeting, the Foods & Civil Supplies Commissioner & Secretary assured the leaders of the NEPMU that the Government will look into the demand of the Union in relation to Central Govt. Minimum Wages, PF and ESI.
Praveen said that the Government will ensure that no one will be unnecessarily harassed during the police investigation into the ongoing fuel theft.
