Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday informed that the government has instructed officers to verify the documents of all applicants for the medical seats from the government quota

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “The matter was discussed with the chief minister. We sat this evening to find out whether or not to put on hold this seat allocation because if an allegation of this nature comes then that means we will have to relook at all the applications. Officers have just been instructed to verify all documents of all applicants for the medical seats from the government quota. If found, then we will also disqualify them because I am told that the same candidates had also gone to the state of Manipur to apply for these seats and the state of Manipur have actually disqualified them.”

On Wednesday, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) had alleged that 11 out of 14 medical seats from the State quota have been allotted to students from outside Meghalaya in the open category.

The KSU has also demanded the government to make public their full details which include Aadhaar card and EPIC of such students after complaints received alleged that they are hailing from neighbouring Assam and have managed to get documents from Ampati, South West Garo Hills.

The minister said, “Let us again look at these documents of all applicants and we are looking at this list afresh now and we will definitely not allow anybody who is not a bonafide permanent resident of the state of Meghalaya to access these very valuable seats.”

According to her, ninety-three seats have been allotted to the State of Meghalaya.

She said as per convention and practice in the past, there is a merit list and seats are distributed accordingly.

“…it is again we need to verify all of this and if it is found to be true then immediately get eliminated from our list,” she added.
