The state government on Monday lifted the restriction on inter-district movement within the state.

“In view of the relaxation made by the Government of India, we have decided to lift the restriction on inter-district movement with immediate effect,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a review meeting.

He said there will be no more restriction on movement of people from one district to another district.

It may be mentioned here that the inter-district movement was banned for the past two months to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Tynsong further informed that the government has also lifted the restriction on public and private transportation from one district to another district.

“Only 50 percent of private and public transportation will be allowed to move freely within the state including Shillong agglomeration,” he said

According to him, car pass will no longer be required. He however said people will require to apply car pass for moving at night time since curfew is in place from 9 pm.

The deputy chief minister said that regulation is being prepared by the Transport department to implement the decision of the government.

“The same will be communicated to the respective deputy commissioners (DCs) to ensure SOPs and protocols issued by health department is adhered to,” Tynsong added.

Asked, the deputy chief minister maintained that the ban on inter-state movement will continue.

Meanwhile, he informed that all shops will be allowed to reopen except barber shops, beauty parlours and malls.

Tynsong however said that Iewduh market will continue to remain closed in view of the decision taken recently after due consultation held with the KHADC and Hima Mylliem.
