    The Meghalaya Government is intending to introduce share mode of transportation for its employees under the project entitled ‘Sustainable Transport and Efficient Mobility Society (STEMS).’

    This is as per letter No.PLR.109/2022/Pt./18 Dated Shillong, the 7 November, 2003 signed by D Synrem, Special Officer & ex-officio Deputy Secretary Planning, Investment Promotion & Sustainable Development Department Government of Meghalaya

    According to the letter, Synrem said it is informed that the State Government intends to create an enabling framework to enhance mobility in an entrepreneurial mode/through private participation for which a study was conducted.

    The study revealed that work trips and educational trips are the major contributors to traffic congestion in the city, he also said.

    “Therefore, it was suggested for the introduction of Shared Bus Systems for Schools as well as Government Offices to reduce the congestion by including a mode shift to efficient modes from private modes,” the letter informed.

    Synrem said in order to implement this project ‘Sustainable Transport and Efficient Mobility Society (STEMS) was created who will be responsible for aggregation of demand, management of the operations, customer care, public relations, vigilance and accounts.

    “Therefore, with the aim of taking steps towards decongesting Shillong, shared commute services for students has been operationalized and as a next step, it is proposed to initiate shared commute service for Government employees in Shillong City,” he asserted.

    The letter informed accordingly, a travel pattern survey of the employees working in different Government Departments, Directorates, and District Offices in Shillong is being conducted is order to enable proper planning of the service.

    Synrem appealed to all administrative department/head of Departments to submit the survey form for Government Employees for Launching Shared Bus commute on or before 12th of this month.
