Meghalaya govt exploring benefits of PSPs: Goyal

Commissioner & Secretary In-charge Power department, Sanjay Goyal said the state government is negotiating with agencies planning to set up Pump Storage Projects (PSPs) in Meghalaya to ensure that these projects benefit both the developers and the state.
“The state government has taken a call that the pump storage setup should be beneficial to the developer as well as to the state,” Goyal told reporters on Friday.
He explained that PSPs are designed to provide power during peak demand periods. However, given the current peak demand in the state, the government is exploring ways to derive commercial benefits from these projects.
The department is engaged in discussions with the agencies to determine the potential benefits for the state.
“So we are in negotiation with the agencies, who are planning to set up these pump storage projects to see what kind of commercial benefits the state can get out of it,” Goyal stated.
According to him, the department is working to ensure that the projects contribute to the state’s power infrastructure while also providing benefits to the developers.
