Meghalaya Govt examining proposals for new districts, sub-divisions

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said creation of new districts and sub-divisions in the state is under examination of the government. 

Reply to a query by Congress legislator from Umroi George B Lyngdoh in the Assembly, Conrad said as of now, government has decided in principle to upgrade Mairang sub-division into a district. 

He also informed that eight proposals for creation of new districts and new sub-divisions are under examination of the government.

The Chief Minister said the parameters generally considered for new districts and sub-divisions are extent of the area, population, distance from the existing district/sub division headquarter, status of education & health services, general economic condition, public convenience, communication and availability of funds.

When Lyngdoh sought for a comparative analysis on the proposals to know whether demands are geniune or not, Conrad however said of couse that can be placed, details can be given but decision may be otherwise.
