Meghalaya Govt directs action against Shillong Western bypass disruptors

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong has directed the deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi to take strict action against individuals attempting to disrupt the Shillong Western Bypass project.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Tynsong said after taking possession of the land, the same has been handed over to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and physical work has commenced, but some groups are attempting to create problems.
“But let me tell you one thing, I have instructed the DCs, be it Ri-bhoi and East Khasi Hills let the law take its own course. If you need security, we will give you security and don’t allow this drama to continue to happen,” he said while stating that the Western Bypass project is intended to benefit the public at large, and the government is committed to ensuring its completion despite attempts by some individuals to hinder progress.

Tynsong also revealed that some stretches of land have posed challenges due to claims by landowners despite payments being made by the district collector.
He however said that the government has made it clear that payment will only be made once ownership issues are resolved, and possession of land has been taken over in many areas.
