    The state government said it is fully committed to ensuring transfer of land to NHIDCL for execution of the road projects and the same is being monitored at the highest level in the government.

    In an official statement issued on Monday, the government said it is trying its level best to complete the disbursement of land compensation as fast as possible.

    It said as the disbursement for land compensation is quite a lengthy procedure where all formalities are to be followed to ensure that payment is being done correctly and judiciously to each and every beneficiary.

    Although with the Lok Sabha election where the Deputy Commissioners ( Revenue) of both the districts East Khasi Hills and Ribhoi were very busy yet the process for land compensation was not stopped and went on as usual.

    The government also clarified that the project is for construction of double lane with paved shoulder for a total length of 38.256 Kms the land compensation amount is Rs 1,82,06,7 1,500.00 for Ribhoi district and Rs 4,79,46,09,470.00 for East Khasi Hills District. The payment is going on whenever procedure is completed and payment has been made to the land owners accordingly

    “The length of the road under Ribhoi district is 15.701 Kms. The last instalment for Ribhoi district as received from NHIDCL was on 21st February, 2024 for an amount of Rs 1,81,56,71,500.00 for which payment notice was issued on the 22nd February 2024 to all affected landowners except those dispute/claims/ counterclaims. The amount disbursed upto 31st March 2024 is Rs 77,11,70,628.00.

    An area of 4,87,325.77 Sq mt i.e 80,45 % of the total area of 6,05,771 .883 Sq mt has been handed over to NHIDCL upto 22/05/2024. After the hearing conducted on 29th May 2024 another 5% of land received from the landowners will be handed over to NHIDCL shortly, this will be 85.45% of the land. Hearing was also conducted on 30th May 2024 for the remaining cases,” it said.

    It also informed that the length of the road under East Khasi hills district is 22.555 Kms and the total area is 10,61,454,466 Sq mt with 488.00 nos of landowners of 11.00 nos of villages. Amount disbursed to the landowners was Rs 3,69,25,13,31 1.00 and the balance is Rs 1,10,20,96,159.00 which is 77.01% and it is anticipated that the payment will go up to 83.00% in a wecks’ time.

    Payment of compensation to the remaining landowners is pending since there are multiple objections raised by landowners and on account of that resurvey had to be conducted. The changes are to be compiled and confirmed before making payment, it said.
